Master of Leadership Development Student
I came to a point where I realized that my skills needed strengthening to move forward in my career. I manage a large staff within my department and want to provide strong leadership for our teams. I feel competent as a manager, but wanted to separate myself as a leader. I had taken courses on leadership, but felt I needed a more intense, well-rounded program to truly understand the full spectrum of leadership.
Penn State Great Valley's Master of Leadership Development (MLD) degree attracted me from the moment I read about the program. After attending the open house, I realized this was the place I wanted to be and in hindsight, I have absolutely no regrets. I enrolled and started in January 2007, and plan to complete my degree in the summer of 2008. The staff and student body have made my course work feel like a family network.
The MLD program has given me more confidence within myself and with my decision making. I have learned to be open-minded in how I view a situation. I have been able to apply some of the classroom theories learned into my workplace but more importantly, I am also utilizing them in my personal life. At times, it can be overwhelming balancing the course work with a busy professional and personal life. However, I have been strongly supported by my workplace and family as well as by the Penn State Great Valley faculty and student body. I believe the most notable experience has been the camaraderie with my MLD peers. This has become a group of people that I respect and trust. We support one another and have established a credible network and friendship.
