Curriculum and Instruction: Literacy
Q: Who should consider the M.Ed. in Literacy?
A: This program helps K-12 teachers become more effective in their reading, writing, and language instruction, and prepares educators to qualify for reading/literacy certification.
Q: How many credits are required in the program?
A: This program is 30 credits and includes courses in Curriculum and Instruction, Literacy, and related fields, including a research project.
Q: Do you have other programs in Literacy?
A Yes. We offer a four course Literacy Certificate program that can be applied toward the M.Ed. in Literacy.
We also offer a Reading Specialist program to prepare teachers for state certification. This program requires 36 credit hours, but does not require a research paper.
Q: How are courses offered?
A: Penn State Great Valley offers courses in both 7 and 14-week sessions. Most courses are offered in the 7-week format, meeting twice a week for 3 hours each night, or on Saturdays. There are six 7-week sessions each academic year. You may begin during any of these sessions.
Q: How do I apply?
A: Please see the Admissions Page. You may begin on a nondegree basis and transfer a maximum of 9 credits into the master's degree program.
